Different changes in bottom communities both outside and inside the road crossing of Dyrafjordur.

The aim of this project is to see if there are Different changes in bottom communities both outside and inside the road crossing of Dyrafjordur. This study is an extended project from the Comparison of invertebrates in the littoral and benthic zone, before and after road crossing of Dyrafjordur and is also supported with a grant from The Road Authority.

Dyrafjordur is a fjord in the northern part of Vestfirdir peninsula (NW-Iceland) that was crossed with a new road in 1991. In 1985, or a few years before the road and bridge construction commenced, there was an extensive ecological survey of invertebrates in the littoral zone and the bottom of the fjord. A later study was carried out in 2006–2007, which followed the same methodology as that used in the 1985 survey. Diversity and similarity indices were calculated between samples taken at the bottom of the fjord in 1985 and those taken in 2007.

In later study was carried out in 2006–2007 the two control station outside the intended bridge were not studied, but in this project the emphasis is on studying those stations and the two station on the other side of the road crossing. Samplings thus repeated on these stations 31 years after the first sampling.
